Transcontinental Selling Packaging Operations – PrintCAN

 Transcontinental has entered into a agreement with ProAmpac Holdings to sell its “Packaging Business”. The Transaction will result in the divestiture of the Corporation’s entire interest in the Packaging Sector. The sale price is is approximately $2.10 billion (Canadian). The Transaction is subject to shareholder approval, regulatory approvals. Packaging is 58% of Transcontinentals total sales. Retail Services and Commercial Printing make up about 42% or just over $1 billion in sales.

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026. Isabelle Marcoux, Executive Chair of the Board said “As we approach our 50th anniversary, Transcontinental is once again reinventing itself. We are excited to open a new chapter in our history, with a sharp focus on advancing the transformation of our Retail Services & Printing and Educational Publishing businesses. The new Transcontinental will be a strong Canadian company, fully committed to growing its presence in Canada.”

MONTREAL—

zeroing in on its Canadian printing and publishing operations as shares jump on the news.

 Transcontinental has entered into a agreement with ProAmpac Holdings to sell its “Packaging Business”. The Transaction will result in the divestiture of the Corporation’s entire interest in the Packaging Sector. The sale price is is approximately $2.10 billion (Canadian). The Transaction is subject to shareholder approval, regulatory approvals. Packaging is 58% of Transcontinentals total sales. Retail Services and Commercial Printing make up about 42% or just over $1 billion in sales.

Isabelle Marcoux, Executive Chair of the Board has grown  Transcontinental’s In-store marketing business division  significantly over the last several years.

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026. UPM And Sappi Merging European Paper Mills

Major European paper manufacture of printing grades.

 UPM and Sappi announced plans to combine their European graphic paper businesses – encompassing 12 paper mills into a new joint venture. UPM explained the rationale for the move: “Overall, the joint venture would rationalize supply in an industry burdened by declining demand, structural overcapacity and high energy costs. “It would contribute to a more balanced and resilient market, and make the industry better positioned to withstand market challenges and

increasing imports.” Sappi pointed to the same backdrop of declining demand and of a paper industry under strain and stated: “Recent trade tensions and tariffs have further disrupted trade flows resulting in increased Asian exports to the European.” The joint venture would include the entire €2.9bn sales UPM Communication Papers business. It includes the following paper mills: Kymi, Rauma and Jämsänkoski in Finland, Nordland, Augsburg, and Schongau in Germany, UPM Caledonian paper mill in Irvine, Scotland, Blandin paper mill in the USA. Sappi’s mills include, Kirkniemi in Finland, Gratkorn in Austria, Ehingen in Germany and Maastricht in the Netherlands. The expected timeline is for the deal to close by the end of 2026.
